From my smartphone to my compact camera to my DSLR, here is an all encompassing look at what I shoot with! (with photo samples obviously) I know DSLRs aren't for everyone because they're so big, so I wanted to share this in case anyone was wondering what else is a good option. For your amusement, here is a photo Nadine took of me creeping behind a tree with my camera...

Smartphone: Samsung Galaxy S6
As I've mentioned before on Facebook and Instagram, I am #TeamSamsung all the way! I used to use an iPhone, but switched after James got the Note 3 a few years ago and I saw how amazing the camera is. I've gone through the S5 to S6 and am even more impressed with James' 6+ edge! The camera handles low light so much better than the iPhone, and has an impressive wide angle inside camera (this makes travel selfies so much easier to get the landmark in the background). On top of that, it has a "Pro" mode that lets you adjust focus, exposure, and ISO. With a large aperture of f/1.9, I can get some pretty amazing bokeh from my phone, which is my absolute favorite thing :)

Compact Camera: Canon S110 Powershot
This compact camera has been compared to a low end DSLR, and I can see why. With an aperture that can go as large as f/2.0, you get amazing bokeh . Though the flash isn't very good, it makes up for it with the camera's ability to handle low light. You can also set the camera to manual mode and play with the settings easily! With a ring on the lens and rotating control buttons on the back, it reminds me of my DSLR in mini form when it comes to adjusting settings.

DSLR: Canon T2i Rebel
The first DSLR I ever used was lent to me by Nadine who was kind enough to teach me everything I know about photography! I believe they're on the T5i model by now, but I was in love when I used this camera. Now that I've upgraded and learned the convenience of the next two DSLR's, I realized that it's actually kind of tough to change settings on the T2i. However, it's a good price for what it is!

DSLR: Canon 60D
If you're looking to buy a DSLR, I loved my Canon 60D! I used it all the way until right before the summer of 2015. It was a very reliable camera, and was a lot easier to change the settings than the T2i. The only reason I changed is that I was looking to upgrade into a full frame camera.
Quick summary on how crop sensors (this camera) and full frames (Canon 6d, 5d mark ii & mark iii):
-you have a wider range in full frame (ie a lens on a crop sensor would look more cropped in than the same lens on a full frame)
-full frames handle the dark better with its greater ISO capabilities (less grain!)
You can read more about it on SLR lounge here.

DSLR: Canon 6D
This is the baby that I currently shoot with and I am in LOVE! I finally upgraded to a full frame, so I have the luxury of using the full frame advantages I previously mentioned. After upgrading to my full frame, I can't seem to go back to my 60D, but it is a reliable back up in case my 6D fails me. If you really want to splurge, go for the 6D! I hear a lot of people who want to get into photography interested in the Mark iii because it is "the best", but the 6D is a great alternative for the casual shooter.
I hope this helps anyone who is interested in getting a camera. Getting ANY camera is the first step even if it means being a smartphone photographer! I noticed I was interested in taking lots of photos when my mom gave me a camera to use in middle school, but didn't start shooting seriously until 3 years ago. You never know! A love of taking photos is the first step :)
